TAKE NOTE

Larry Landis in the Special Collections Reading Room.

We are fortunate that the Society of American Archivists annual conference will be right here in Oregon (i.e. Portland) this summer.  In addition to educational sessions, committee meetings, and the like, SAA sponsors an all-day Research Forum that highlights research by educators, scholars, practitioners, and students.   The forum includes both posters and presentations.   The call for proposals is now available here:   http://archivists.org/proceedings/research-forum/2017/call

On Monday the 13th at 7pm, the co-chairs of the building name advisory committee made up of faculty, staff and students will present the results of their work that began in April 2016. Co-chairs Associate Professor Joseph Orosco and OSU Archivist Larry Landis will share the committee’s recommendations on how and why the name of a university building or place may be changed.

Pie on Pi day: Do you like pie?  Do you enjoy calculating the radius of circles?  Well, then this Tuesday is the day for you!  Join your coworkers and fellows in the staff lounge starting at 3:14pm-4pm for some pie and pi celebrating.

DEPARTMENTAL NEWS

The Valley Library basement is cleaned up! Special thanks goes out to Victoria for taking the lead with 2 major library contributors: Zac Laugheed and Info Desk student employee Cora Seagraves.  Sadly we lost Zac, and Cora will graduate at the end of this term.

Kelly McElroy, Laurie Bridges, and Hannah Gascho Rempel have had their book, Understanding Student Development: A Practical Guide for Librarians, accepted by Rowman and Littlefield.  Keep an eye out for it in the Fall of 2017.

Useful info about marketing and communications now available in CN-Share:  Daniel Moret has placed a variety of documents in CN-Share than can be useful to faculty and staff of the Libraries and Press. You’ll find the following folders and documents in the Shared area in the Communications and Marketing folder: Communications Plan; Graphic Design Completed Projects; Graphic Design Procedures; Logos for Libraries and Press; Marketing Tips Guides; Photos, Photo Releases and Photographers; Quotes about Libraries and Education; and Social Media.

Do you have quotes from students or faculty about the library? If you have positive testimonial quotes from students or faculty about the Valley Library, please forward those quotes to Daniel Moret.
