NEWS

In the past 20 years, Laura has worked in Cataloging where she has assigned subject headings to theses and dissertations, submitted (and had approved) many new subject headings for inclusion in the Library of Congress Subject Headings, and maintained our catalog coverage of electronic resources (purchased ebooks, sea grant and forest service publications, Kindle titles, streaming videos, etc.).  She has created hundreds of name authority records, many for OSU and Oregon researchers.  Over the years she has worked on many special projects, including cataloging the Gerald Williams Collection and our most recent efforts to deselect duplicate copies in the Valley Library.  Laura’s official last day with OSULP is today, 19 June 2017.

 Sara Thompson

Sara Thompson from OSU Cascades has accepted a position as the Adult Services Manager at Deschutes Public Library in Bend.  Her last day with OSU will be Friday, July 14th.  Sara says that “Being the librarian at OSU-Cascades has had its challenges, but it has also been a wonderful, exciting experience. There are many things about this job and many, many people I will miss - including the fantastic library colleagues of Valley Library!  I will look forward to seeing you at library conferences and whenever you're in Bend, I'm happy to get a coffee / tea / beer together.  My home email is sara.q.thompson@gmail.com.”

TAKE NOTE

Branding Tips from Daniel Moret

Last week, we looked at the university’s official colors and today we’ll look at the new logos.

The new university logo contains the words “Oregon State University” and an academic crest that represents various attributes of the university.

According to the Brand Guide:

As the primary identifier for Oregon State University, the logo must be used on all forms of communication and whenever the university is being represented. Consistent use of the logo strengthens recognition for Oregon State and helps build a unified brand. Unique logos for academic, administrative or research units undermine this effort and are not permitted, without exception.

Companion Logos

The brand architecture system provides for companion logos for colleges and select units [which includes the Libraries and Press]. Companion logos cannot be placed on the front of materials but may be used on the back cover, next to contact information. They may also be used on stationery and promotional products.

Beaver Logo

Academic departments are now allowed to use the Beaver logo. Previously, only Athletics was allowed to use the Beaver logo.

To obtain logos, go to the CN-Share and the Communications and Marketing folder. For more info about logo use, go to communications.oregonstate.edu/brand-guide/visual-identity/logo.

 Compost bin

The term is over and its full speed ahead to summer (well, tomorrow it will feel like summer). So here is the call for Simmer Staff Lounge Compost duty that you all been eagerly awaiting!  We’ve got 12 weeks to cover (including Sept intersession).

Simply check your schedule and sign up for a week (sign up for both days in the given week, please): www.SignUpGenius.com/go/30E0D4CADAF23A2F49-summer. Please respond with your volunteer selections by Tuesday, June 20 so that I can get a schedule posted by Wednesday.

Summit requests and some ILL book requests placed from June 24th through July 4th will be delayed in getting to the customer due to a change in courier service.  Remind customers to request early, and if that doesn’t work to place their request through ILL with a note that they need the item before July 7th.  ILL will do their best to accommodate, but as per usual there is never a guaranteed delivery time.

Printing and Mailing Services moving campus location: Printing and Mailing Services’ Xpress Stop location will be moving to MU61 this summer. They will be closing all print production on June 16 and will continue shipping services through June 23. Beginning June 24, the Xpress Stop will be closed completely at its current location. They will reopen in late July and all current services will continue to be available at our new location. If you have any questions please feel free to contact Jeff Todd at 541-737-9062 or Jeffrey.todd@oregonstate.edu.

Construction season is underway and this summer travelers on U.S. 20 will see the completion of the west end curve of the Pioneer Mountain-Eddyville Project and two separate but nearby paving projects. Expect some 20 minute delays during day and night work, but no scheduled long or overnight closures.  There will be no closures during holidays or around the eclipse (Monday, August 21).

DEPARTMENTAL NEWS

Fiscal year end close is upon us.  Please ensure that purchases are made prior to these deadlines.  Obviously, emergency/rush exceptions can be made, but we’d like to limit those since that expense will be added to the new FY and require extra work for staff to do reconciliation.

  • June 21st: last day to use the PCard.  This impacts registrations, supply orders, and book orders.
  • June 23rd: last day to make a purchase through an Autopay vendor (Azumano, OfficeMax, OSU Bookstore, etc).
