Requesting, Delivery & Loan

Who can use Summit?

Summit is available to currently registered OSU students, faculty and staff with a valid ONID account.  For inormation about your ONID, please visit OSU Network ID.

How do I place a Summit request?

  • Navigate to the 1Search catalog and log in using your ONID username and password to request Summit materials.
    • If material is not available through OSU Libraries, select "Place Summit request."
    • Indicate if a specific volume is needed.
    • To request multiple volumes from a multi-volume set, submit a separate Summit request for each volume.
    • Select your pickup location before submitting request.
  • If the Summit request is successful, you will receive an email when the item is available for pickup. Ecampus and remote patrons will have the items shipped to them via FedEx.
  • If the request cannot be filled through Summit, you will receive an email with a link that will allow you to submit a request through ILL.

How do I know my request went through?

You can check the status of your Summit request in your library account. Here are some statuses you might see:

Summit Request Status What does this status mean?
Request Sent to Partner The request has been sent to a potential lending Summit library.
Shipped Physically The item has been shipped by a lending Summit library and is on its way.
Physically Received by Library Item has arrived at an OSU library and you will receive an email when it is ready to pickup.

If you are looking to check on the status of your ILL item, check out the ILL statuses here.

How long does it take for Summit materials to arrive?

Summit materials are delivered in about 3 business days via courier, excluding weekends and holidays. This makes it a faster and less expensive alternative to Interlibrary Loan. Ecampus and remote patrons will have the items shipped to them via FedEx.

When can I pick up my Summit material?

  • An automated email is delivered to your ONID email account when your Summit material is available for pickup. The email will indicate your pickup location.
  • Loans are held for 7 days. Unclaimed items will be returned to the lending Summit institution. If you need more time, contact us

How long can I keep my Summit material?

  • Summit materials loan out for 84 days (12 weeks) and have one 42 day (6 week) renewal.

Recalls, Renewals & Returns

Can Summit items be recalled?

Yes, Summit materials are subject to recall. If your Summit item is recalled, you will receive an email notification with the new due date. New due dates are usually 14 days from the date of the recall.

Can I renew Summit materials?

Summit materials are eligible for one renewal.  For more information about Summit loan periods, click here.

How do I return my Summit material?

  • Summit materials may be returned to any OSU Library or any other Summit member library. Return all Summit material with the original Summit paper band.
  • If the book is returned at another Summit library, inform their library staff that the item was not checked out at that location.

How do I return my Summit material if I'm an Ecampus student or remote faculty or staff member?

  • Materials will need to be shipped back to the library.  To avoid overdue fines, allow for transit time so material arrives at the library on or before the due date.
  • Be aware you are responsible for the items until the library receives them.  We recommend using a shipping method that provides tracking.
    • Re-use any shipping boxes, padded envelopes, or paperwork provided.  Please retain any tracking information if it is provided.
  • If you use a FedEx dropbox/Kiosk location, please plan accordingly for possible delays.  Shipments dropped off at these locations are subject to time delays in reaching FedEx for delivery.
  • Returned Summit items should be shipped to the following address:
OSU Valley Library - ILL
121 The Valley Library
Oregon State University
Corvallis, OR 97331
