Marisa Reasons

Marisa Reasons, the longest currently employed member of OSU Libraries and Press, retired last week.  Marisa has seen and done a lot in the area of serials acquisitions.  She’s been a part of no more than 7 online database systems where she had the opportunity to figure out the best workflow for serials check-in.  Even through the many transitions libraries, and OSULP, has undergone in nearly four decades, Marisa can be relied upon to have a positive, can-do attitude.  She has a strong customer service ethic that I will truly miss.  She’ll be coming back on a temporary, part-time basis.

Last Wednesday, OSU issued a news release on the joint SCARC/OHS Finley/Bohlman digitization projectCheck it out here to see where it’ll be touring next.

OSU Press is proud that Jarold Ramsey, one of our authors, received a special award at the Oregon Book Awards event last night.  Ramsey was honored with the Charles Erskine Scott Wood Distinguished Writer Award.  Ramsey’s forthcoming book with OSU Press, Words Marked by a Place:  Further Reflection on the Human and Natural History of Central Oregon (tentative pub date spring 2018) is a follow up to his 2003 OSU Press title, New Era:  Reflections on the Human and Natural History of Central Oregon. (More info: )

We were also pleased that Sue Armitage, another OSU Press author, was a finalist for the Frances Fuller Victor Award for General Fiction. Sue was interviewed about her nominated book, Shaping the Public Good: Women Making History in the Pacific Northwest, on OPB’s State of Wonder this past weekend (  This OPB show also interviewed OSU professor Tracy Daugherty, this year’s recipient of the Victor Award for his book, The Last Love Song: A Biography of Joan Didion (St. Martin’s).

Fake News speaker series: Trischa Goodnow will speak on Fake News is the New V.D.: Verbal Deception as a Means of Manipulation,” 3-4 p.m., May 3, Willamette Rooms, The Valley Library. The phrase verbal deception has been coined to better describe what has popularly become known as fake news.  OSU Professor Trischa Goodnow will discuss how fake news or verbal deception are being used in the current political climate to manipulate audiences, and the lecture will suggest a simple solution to the problem – logic and reason.

A Avenue: As part of the new OSU 16th & A Ave Parking Lot project, road reconstruction of A Avenue between 15th and 16th Streets will require closure of the street for the duration of work expected to take less than 30 days (View Map).  This closure is in addition to the existing parking and southern sidewalk closure in place. April 12- May 12.  The northern sidewalk at the Pride Center will remain open during construction, but will require a 3-day shutdown later to remove and replace the sidewalk, to be coordinated with building managers of the Pride Center.
