Sustainability is a core value at the Valley Library. By their very nature, libraries embody sustainable practices in the sharing of materials, resources and spaces among community members. Since the Valley Library is a popular destination and heavily used space, it produces a significant amount of waste - waste that does not all have to go to the landfill. This is why the Valley Library recycling and composting program is so important.
The Valley Library offers collection bins for paper recycling, bottle/can recycling, and trash disposal on all six floors of the library. Look for the large, silver triple-sort bins. There is at least one triple-sort bin in each Avenue elevator bay, and most floors have additional triple-sort bins in high-traffic areas. The interior elevator bays all have separate bottle/can recycling bins and trash bins.
The Valley Library depends on you and other communicty members to correctly sort waste to ensured continued recycling success in the library and on campus.
Collection bins for compostable materials are located on the main (2nd) floor of the Valley Library: near the Information Desk, near the Rotunda, at the Learning Commons entrance to the Undergrad Research & Writing Studio, and at the Avenue entrance to the Undergrad Research & Writing Studio.
The Valley Library depends on you and other communicty members to correctly sort compostable materials to ensured continued compost collection success in the library and on campus.
Accptable materials include:
We no longer accept non-fiber based materials in our compost bins in accordance with campus compost policy. This means that we no longer accept any "compostable" cups, plates, or utensils in our bins (no exceptions). Please throw all other non-compostable and non-recyclable material into the trash (landfill-bound) bin.
